Pool Service and Repair F.A.Q

Q. Does your pool tile cleaning process cause any damage to my tile?
A. No. Everything Swimming Pools uses a non-abrasive, pH balanced mineral that will gently polish your pool’s tile. Additionally, our product is also safe for people, pets and landscaping.

Q. We have little white spots in our spa that are rough to the touch, can you remove them?
A. The little white spots that you are seeing are call calcium nodules. ACT’s pool polishing service can remove these areas of build-up, leaving behind a smooth finish.

Q. I have some missing and broken tiles on my spa wall, is this dangerous?
A. Actually, broken pool tiles can become sharp and cause injury to bathers that might brush against them. Along with missing tiles, there could also be hollow tiles. Hollow pool tiles allow for water to seep behind them and calcium buildup to form, spreading to adjoining tiles and escalating the amount of area to repair.

Q. By doing an acid wash on my white plaster swimming pool, will it remove all of my blue, brown, and yellow stains on the bottom of my pool?
A. Acid washing will reduce or remove surface staining from organic and inorganic stains that have been left on your pool’s surface. These stains may be caused by minerals and metals in your pool’s water or due to poorly balanced water chemistry.

Q. What is the advantage of having my deck-o-seal replaced and how often should this be done?
A. Your expansion joint (deck-o-seal) helps to prevent cracking of your deck and coping by allowing for expansion and contraction. This joint should be inspected yearly, but doesn’t need to be replaced unless there are areas that have pulled away or are missing.

Q. Where does the calcium that builds up on my swimming pool tile come from?
A. Calcium is naturally present in our tap water, and at certain levels is an intricate part in your pool’s water chemistry. When your calcium levels become too high, the water can no longer hold all of the calcium in solution, and the calcium starts to deposit on your pool tile and other surfaces. Calcium deposits also occur when water is not properly balanced; causing the calcium to fall out of solution even if the calcium is not at a high level.

Q. When cleaning my swimming pool’s tile or stone, do you have to drain the pool?
A. Draining your swimming pool is not always necessary. We at ACT generally recommend that if your pool’s water has not been drained within the last year, that you go ahead and drain at least a portion of the water. Our trained technicians will do a complete water chemistry analysis to determine the appropriate measures concerning the draining of your swimming pool.

Q. Do I need to replace my swimming pool heater if it is not heating properly?
A. Swimming pool heaters do not have to be replaced simply if they are not heating. Though if it is older and has signs of rust and other damage then yes sometimes it is a more cost effective thing to do. Everything Swimming Pools always recommends having a professional diagnose and treat the problem.

Q. My pool light comes on for a few minutes and then just shuts off, is this an electrical problem?
A. If your swimming pool light comes on then goes off a few minutes later, it is probably that your fixture has moisture in it and the bulbs heat causes condensation to occur shorting out the light. This can typically be resolved by changing the bulb and gasket in hopes that there is no significant damage to the pool or spa light fixture.

Q. We have had our pool filter pump for about twelve years and just recently it started making a very high pitched whining noise, is this common with older pumps?
A. It is a common occurrence that a swimming pool pump, in its older age, will start to whine due to the bearings and seals wearing out. This is the time to think about replacing your old pool pump with a more energy efficient model, which will save you money in the long run.

Q. I just bought my house and the metal swimming pool filter seems to be leaking and rusty, what should I do?
A. If there is corrosion happening on the pool filter that could be a sign that it needs to be repaired or replaced. Chemicals over time will break down stainless steel pool filters causing them to leak and possibly send rust back to your swimming pool or spa.

Q. We have a salt water pool and we just can’t seem to keep the chlorine levels right in the pool. Is there something wrong with the system?
A. Without having one of Everything Swimming Pools trained technicians out to trouble shoot the salt water swimming pool problem it is hard to give a definite answer. Your problem could be water chemistry related or a piece of failing equipment.

Q. We were out of town for a week and when we got back our pump would not turn on any more. Everything else seems fine, but when we turn the pump on it just makes a humming sound. What do we do?
A. It sounds like you have a seized up swimming pool motor. This can occur from age, low water levels causing the pool pump to heat up, or excess debris left in the strainer basket.

When we purchased our house, the pool needed lots of work. We spoke with several companies and almost all recommended we remodel, until we found Everything Swimmming Pools. They suggested to acid wash the plaster and clean and repair the pool tile. For a fraction of what we were quoted for remodeling, our pool now looks great. Their staff was easy to work with and professional. I will recommend Everything Swimming Pools to all my friends.

It was such a comfort to know that Everything Swimming Pools could not only clean my pool’s tile, but do so without draining the pool. We were able to swim the same day! Thanks for all your hard work. I’m a believer!!

I want to thank the guys at Everything Swimming Pools. After having another company acid wash my pool, the plaster was really rough. The kids kept scraping their feet and snagging their bathing suits. I was a little hesitant to do anything more, until I talked with Kevin. He assured me that polishing the pool would smooth out the surface, making it feel like new again. I am totally sold now!

Being the middle of summer, I didn’t want to have to go without my pool for any length of time, but the stone coping around my pool was becoming really dangerous. The stones were wobbly, and I was afraid that someone was going to fall. Everything Swimming Pools was able to come out and fix the pool in an afternoon. Cory Moore
